Melt-in-Your-Mouth Tiramisu

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 1 package ladyfingers
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Chocolate shavings, for garnish


  1. In a heatproof bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water and whisk until the mixture becomes pale and slightly thickened. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  2. Whisk in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.
  4. In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using).
  5. Dip the ladyfingers into the coffee mixture briefly, making sure not to soak them completely. Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom of a serving dish.
  6. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  7. Cover and refrigerate the tiramisu for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  8. Before serving, dust the top with unsweetened cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings.
